Joe's answers to your questions!

Twenty of the questions you wanted asking were put to Joe ~ this is what he had to say.....

20 Questions

1. What was it like growing up in Liverpool in the sixties?

O.K It was an exciting time for football with the great Bill Shankly.

2. What made you go into acting in the first place?

I've forgotten!! I enjoyed the theatre from the first time I saw a play when I was 12 - then later became virtually unemployable at any other level - now I'm stuck with it.

3. Which of your brothers do you have the closest relationship with?

    Clare!

4. Would there be any possibility of a 'McGann Event' with a meeting of the fans and you and your brothers?

    I shouldn't hold your breath......

5. You worked with all three of your brothers on 'The Hanging Gale' and with Mark and Stephen in 'Tom, Dick and Harry'. Can you see yourselves working together on any future projects?

Not in this lifetime, I'm afraid.

6. Do you have any plans for another CD with your brothers?

    See above

7. Of all your co-stars, past and present, which have you enjoyed working with the most?

Diana Weston and Honor Blackman (from 'The Upper Hand')

8. Have you had any you wouldn't like to work with again?

    See above

9. If you could choose any partner to do a duet with, who would it be?

    Rufus Wainwright

10. Do you prefer to act in musicals or straight plays?

No preference, bring 'em all on!!

11. Have you ever done pantomime? Would it be something you would consider in the future?

I did one panto - at the Young Vic in 1984. I avoided them for years as they're not really my thing, but I would consider playing a dame - I'd enjoy that I think.

12. Of all the roles you have played so far, which has been your favourite?

      Charlie from The Upper Hand.

13. If you had a choice of any role ~ film, television or stage ~ what would it be?

     Malvolio (Twelfth Night)

14. What memories do you have of Guys and Dolls first time around? (Joe played the role of Sky Masterson in 1989)

Not many really - my daughter was a very young baby and most memories are of her.

15. How does playing Nathan differ to playing Sky?

Nathan is now 18 years older than Sky was. Nathan is more fun - he drives the show and has a better journey. They're both fabulous parts, though.

16. How is married life 'on the road'? (Joe got married in Glasgow at the beginning of the 'Guys and Dolls' tour)

Very lovely Thank you. Tam has been with me for some of the dates - she's a massage/reiki therapist and has been putting healing hand on the cast.....

17. Which songs did you sing in Yakety Yak?

Three Cool Cats, Saved, One Kiss Led to Another, Ruby Baby.

18. If money was no object, what car would you own?

I don't really know. Probably an old Mercedes from the 70's - all done up.

19. Would that change if youcould include 'movie cars' eg KIT from Knight rider, VW beetle from Austin Powers?

Not one bit - can't stand gimmicky cars!!

20. I live in Co Mayo, republic of Ireland, recently moved form England. I visited a McGann family that live near Knock in a place called Mace Middle. Tom McGann is a craftsman plasterer and his father was one of 14 children (7boys, 7 girls). I wonder if there is a connection? I know the 'Hanging Gale' was set in Donegal not far from here.

As far as I'm aware (Stephen would be the one to really ask) the name McGann originates in Co Mayo, as does our ancestry - so Tom the plasterer is probably a distant cousin..

I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank Joe, on behalf of everyone who sent in questions to be asked, for taking time out of the busy 'Guys and Dolls' tour to give the answers - we all appreciate it!
